You have to know the expressive heart shapes of this hosta inspired me to create this painting to showcase this favorite gardening shrub. It is the second in a series of hostas featuring heart shapes. I played with the positioning of the leaves until I arrived at this arrangement which features them in all their glory and creates engaging shapes between them. I love that design element in this painting. Every time I look at it I find myself exploring the negative shapes between the leaves. Those delightful little shapes are an important design element that intrigues the viewer and adds interest to the whole. Within those spaces between the leaves I added tiny transparent crystal beads that catch the light and sparkle as your eyes move across the painting which continues around all four canvas edges.. I just ordered prints of some of my wine pieces here and just love the acrylic prints sandwiched in between the 1/4 inch clear acrylic and black backer board. You'd swear the prints were under glass. The clarity is unbelievable and the thickness of the glass-like acrylic gives the pieces a real substantial presence. The black backer board lends a fine black visual border. The acrylic print option is the way to go for a very sleek, contemporary look. If I order any prints to keep for myself or for gifts, I will choose the acrylic print option over any of the other options, including gallery wrapped canvas prints. I just love the novel, contemporary look it adds!
