Artist's Description
Terpsichore Tribute 12" x 24" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas. The graceful, swaying postures of stately trees fascinate me. Well, I'm a huge fan of nearly everything I find in nature that exudes graceful, curvy lines. The inspirational photo for this acrylic painting was devoid of any color interest and the trees were rooted in flat landscape. The trees were leaning just enough for me to see the opportunity to exaggerate their curving tendencies in a preliminary thumbnail sketch. Before long I began to imagine these grand ladies dancing in long flowing evening gowns. Blue violet dominates the painting in the sky and shadows. Maybe you will notice the shadow dancers whirling in the sky. This painting was all about curves, playful colors and having fun. Even the landscape became curvaceous and the shadows playful. The painting is named after the mythological muse of dancing, Terpsichore.
About Sandi Whetzel
Sandi developed a "do-it-yourself" attitude during her teens when she couldn't afford luxuries. She fabricated her wardrobe and then her home decor after she married. Mesmerized by PBS TV art demo shows, Sandi painted some of her hand-fashioned garments. When the couple purchased new furniture, wall art was not in their budget. Recalling the PBS art shows and her fabric painting, Sandi passionately plunged into oil painting, learning by trial and error. Sandi's self-guided art experiments blossomed with four years of instruction from a talented community college art instructor, Bonnie Hill, of Roseburg, OR.
