All the delicate blooms on my stately magnolia tree were located on branches so high up the tree I could not view them from a level plane. They are typically rendered from a top-side vantage point, revealing the tops of the petals radiating from the flower center. I noticed their undersides were beautiful, also, like colorful petticoats supporting elegant, white gowns.
My camera zoom allowed me to get an intimate view of this magnolia's undergarments, which inspired the title, Intimate Apparel. This revealing view from underneath is a tribute to the beauty of this pristine, sensual, flower from any vantage. Strategic cropping resulted in an intriguing design. The curving, triangular, shapes of sky between the care-free, windblown, petal underskirts serve as arrows directing your eye to the center of this seductive flower.
I hope your spirits are renewed whenever you reflect upon this version of the delicate, beautiful, magnolia.
Sandi developed a "do-it-yourself" attitude during her teens when she couldn't afford luxuries. She fabricated her wardrobe and then her home decor after she married. Mesmerized by PBS TV art demo shows, Sandi painted some of her hand-fashioned garments. When the couple purchased new furniture, wall art was not in their budget. Recalling the PBS art shows and her fabric painting, Sandi passionately plunged into oil painting, learning by trial and error. Sandi's self-guided art experiments blossomed with four years of instruction from a talented community college art instructor, Bonnie Hill, of Roseburg, OR.
