Artist's Description

I conceived this painting to illustrate "A Feast for the Eyes" theme to promote an art festival. Despite the fact that it was not selected to promote the event, it is a winner in my eyes. It does vividly convey the idea. Without that challenge, this painting would not exist. Several of my painting concepts have won competitions to promote events. If I can get inspired about the proposed themes, I enjoy stretching my imagination to develop paintings that I might not have painted otherwise. These works are some of my most successful paintings.

I chose this infant's facial pose because I could omit the bridge of the nose of an older child. The painting is all about his eyes and the wonders of what he is seeing, without the distraction of other features that were cropped out. It has more impact because it is an intimate view of the wonders he is beholding. It is a feast for the eyes "Through the Eyes of a Child".

After Bonnie left that position, she persuaded Sandi to instruct the class. Sandi instructed art at Umpqua College from 1997 to...
